Staffy training tips... please!?
Just adopted a gorgeous 8 week old staffy x kelpie (he doesnt have a name yet)... would like to start training him ASAP, any tips and/or ideas on how to start and what I should start with?

If your Staffy is crossed with a Kelpie would I be right to assume you are in Australia?
If so the reccommended age to start puppy classes is 16 weeks of age. They usually go for 8 weeks and are only around $100 for the course.
A good book to read is called *The Power of Positive Dog Training* by Pat Millner.
You can start with a bit of basic dog training now, like making your dog *sit* before (and for) each meal.
If you google N.I.L.I.F (Nothing in Life is Free) you will get heaps of great tips. I base my dogs training around this philosophy.
As for tips on cheaps things. Go to your local Red Cross Shop and look for some extra large pillow cases and fill them with 2 cheap pillows, costs only a few dollars and makes a great bed until he is out of the chewing phase. I even got a large basket for Rocco that was his first bed until I got a better one from the vet. Last thing you want is puppy chewing up a good bed!
Also at charity shops you can find cheap rubber kids toys that are good for puppies. Choose carefully, however, nothing that can be swallowed (or anything with buttons for that matter).
I used to also go to hardware stores and buy thick cotton rope and make my own rope toys.
Kongs are great too, they can be a little pricey initially but they can be used over and over again.
