Chew Rawhide

Choosing Safe Dog Bones
Brushing a dog's teeth isn't easy, so conscientious owners treat their dogs with dog bones. The chewing action can mechanically clean off debris and tartar from dogs' teeth. Not only do they provide your dog some good activity, but dogs love all the different varieties.
One example of a potentially dangerous dog treat is dog rawhide. Although dogs love the meaty taste, they can possibly choke on rawhide pieces that come off the treat. Hard rawhide pieces can also scrape your dog's esophagus or throat when he swallows. Rawhide can sometimes cause an obstruction in your dog's intestines. You may have noticed that a partially eaten rawhide dog chew is gummy and wet. So your dog swallowing that is a lot like us swallowing chewing gum not a good thing.
Another treat that your dog will love is cow hooves, but they can lead to some of the same problems as rawhide. Additionally, they are sometimes hard enough to crack your dog's teeth. Uneven, sharp pieces of cow hoof can tear a bowel wall if swallowed. Often death, or at least infection, can be the result. It's just not worth the risk.
Not only can pig ears cause digestive tract blockages, they can also contain salmonella. Rather than risking an injury or illness, it's better to go with safer dog treats.
There are some dog bones that are safer for your friend to eat. Especially in this age of all-natural products, you can find many different kinds ofdog treats that are healthy for your dog and that don't pose so many potential risks.
As you can tell from their name, Nylabones are made from nylon. They're quite strong. Unlike rawhide, they will not break into chunks or splinter. The whole bone is digestible, and even aggressive chewers will have a good time with a nylon bone. Once your dog has chewed a Nylabone into a little stump, pitch that piece and get him a new dog bone.
Better than Ears are fake pig ears that are very digestible, and low in fat. They really are better than pig's ears, because they are made from healthy ingredients like wheat bran and soy flour. Dogs adore Better than Ears. They don't last very long!
Here are some dog bone tips. Never give your dog chicken bones. They can splinter, or become lodged in your dog's esophagus.
One less dangerous alternative to regular rawhide dog treats is compressed rawhide. The rawhide bone is dense due to compressed layers of beef hide. This kind lasts up to five times longer than regular rawhide dog bones.
When you buy dog treats for your special friend, check the ingredients, and look at the bones. They are not healthy for your dog if they look greasy to you. It's a good idea to watch your dog whenever you give him a new type of dog bone to chew on. Throw it away if you notice that it has splintered or looks like it may be dangerous for your dog. Don't take a chance with the health and safety of your best friend.
