Restful Sleep: The Facts
The importance of getting a good night’s sleep is one that cannot be underestimated. Good sleep is essential to both a sharp mind and a properly operating body. As such, developing positive sleeping habits is something that everyone should do.
A good start would be to establish a routine of sleeping and waking at around the same time each day. This not only assures that you’ll get the right amount of sleep every night, but also trains your internal clock to make the most of the allotted time. You can make falling asleep easier by avoiding caffeine, nicotine or alcohol, all of which have a tendency to keep you up and irritable. For that matter, try to stay away from heavy meals or lots of liquids before bedtime, the latter of which will have you plodding to the toilet when you’re trying to get some shut-eye. Your body won’t rest well if your mind isn’t resting, so set aside some time before sleeping to just relax and purge your mind of bothersome thoughts.
Another important factor in restful sleep is the bed and its surroundings.
