3 Wheel Stroller: A Look at its Rising Popularity
3 Wheel Jogging Stroller brands have come to dominate the entire stroller market. As the style gained wider acceptance, their popularity has grown dramatically.
Originally, the 3 wheel stroller design was conceived exclusively for jogging strollers. Running junkies needed a stroller that was up to the challenge of long runs and hard everyday use. Atrributes such as straight tracking, light weight, and aerodynamic design were the main requirements.
Soon the amateurs started to copy the professionals. Pretty soon, trendy parents began adopting 3 wheelers in an attempt to appear athletic and fit. Of course, the stroller companies quickly capitalized on this trend and started producing new lines of 3 wheel styled models. These days, every company boasts multiple lines of 3 wheel strollers whose quality is a step down from the original concept.
Baby Jogger started it all back in the late 80's. The original had large tires, a light strong frame, a lightweight hammock style seat, and a handle mounted brake. Every element of its design was geared toward running, and all the regular bells and whistles were stripped out. Chariot Carriers and Bob's Trailers are two of the companies that first started to produce high quality 3 wheelers designed specifically for running. Phil and Ted, along with Mountain Buggy (from New Zealand and Australia) build high quality three wheel models that are not suitable for jogging.
Copy-cats were attracted by the success of the premium brands: and now all of the low-end to mid-priced companies manufacture some variant of the three wheeler. Jeep Stroller, SchwinnCycles, and Baby-Trend are prime examples - and they do appeal to a budget conscious household. While all parents aren't serious runners, it should be noted that the value conscious strollers won't last through week after week of punishing running.
True jogging strollers are being crowded off store shelves in favor of the run of the mill 3 wheel stroller. Online stores are rapidly becoming the best option for finding premium 3 wheel strollers. Since companies target the larger generic market , it is much easier to find these everyday models. The latest addition to the premium 3 wheeler market is the Sub-4 Jogger from Phil and Ted. Its minimalist, aerodynamic design encourages better posture while jogging.
