Day of the Dead Trailer #1
What to Get up to When Visiting the Dead Sea
Welcome to the lowest point on Earth! The Dead Sea is renowned throughout the world as an interesting and exotic place. Its extreme salinity, location and sunshine make it a great tourist destination for adventure and relaxation enthusiasts. The western shores of the Dead Sea are located on the West Bank and Israeli territory, and a little in Palestine. However, the eastern shore is mainly bordering Jordan.
Driving from most major cities in Israel and Jordan is the only way for tourists to get to the Dead Sea. The quickest way is to fly into Jerusalem then take a 15 minute car ride or bus ride. Dead Sea hotels are located around the shoreline, boasting excellent services and facilities on most occasions.
The Dead Sea has become one of the most attractive holiday destinations in the Middle East. There are so many things to see, especially some biblical sites of note. However, there are also many things to do while visiting the area, so visitors will need to spend at least three or four days at the Dead Sea to experience it all. But, this shouldn't be a problem, as most tourists spend up to a week or more in the region.
First and foremost, there is no point in going to the Dead Sea if travellers are not prepared to swim. Well, not so much swim, but at least float! The extreme salinisation levels of the water at the Dead Sea means there is a high level of buoyancy, so it is almost impossible to sink. However, visitors must be reminded that swimming should be done on the back, not the front. This will enable a safer bathing experience, and should keep the salty water out of the mouth, eyes and nose, which can become quite uncomfortable.
Bathing in the Dead Sea is not the only thing visitors can do in the water. While resting on the shoreline, it is not uncommon for travellers and locals to completely cover themselves with the mud from the Dead Sea. The high salt concentration and minerals found in the mud make it extremely therapeutic, and many people travel here just for this. Why spend money at a spa or beauty salon when a cleansing of the skin can be done for free!
If visitors do enjoy spending an afternoon, an entire day, or even an entire holiday in a spa, then they in luck, because there are plenty of spas located around the Dead Sea to choose from. Some of these can be found in the high-end resorts sitting along the waters edge, but there are numerous other cheaper options available. In addition to the price, there are many different packages and styles on offer.
For those guests who enjoy swimming and the water, but have had enough of the high level of salt water of the Dead Sea, there are several other swimming options available throughout the shoreline settlements of the Dead Sea. There are two water parks located at the Dead Sea, including the famous Al Wadi Resort water park and the Atraktzia Water Park in Israel.
There are also some really fascinating adventure activities to enjoy in the Mujijb Reserve, which happens to be the lowest national park and nature reserve in the world. Abseiling the beautiful cliffs of the Dead Sea, waterfall and cliff jumping, climbing, cave exploring and of course, floating, are just some of the activities on offer in this beautiful reserve.
Any body who sees the Dead Sea will notice the mountain ranges that surround this stunning natural feature. Well, these mountain ranges are home to plenty of hiking trails for outdoor enthusiasts.
